To the Black, White, Yellow, and Brown:

My son, Brock, and me at the launch of
ROCKDEEP MIXED NATION Apparel.

I drew the inspiration for MIXED NATION Apparel from my children. In today’s world everyone seems so eager to categorize people based upon their racial and cultural backgrounds. Not wanting my multicultural children to feel at odds with the parts that make up the whole, I chose to instill in my kids an overall sense of pride for the various cultures represented in our family which, in part, make them who they are. What better way to truly embrace this pride than to wear it?

But MIXED NATION isn’t just about making multicultural individuals feel proud of their “mix,” it’s about embracing all cultures knowing that it’s that element of diversity which pushes us to understand the worlds of others in order to broaden our own. The world has always been teeming with cultural differences, but only recently (relative to the history of the world) have we, as a society, moved beyond tolerance towards acceptance. MIXED NATION encourages its members to take it one step farther, let’s not just accept cultural diversity, let’s love the inevitable mixing of cultures whether it’s genetic, familial, or friendly—let’s love it and learn from it.

MIXED NATION started as an idea but has grown into a movement. Now, I have no lofty goals of utilizing MIXED NATION as a means to end racism or bigotry. I simply seek to unite those who embrace diversity of all sorts under one mixed nation.

Now go forth, and mix!
